Overview of role

StorMagic is a rapidly growing software-defined storage company and one of the leading players within the highly disruptive hyperconverged infrastructure market. With a wide range of customers from known international brand retailers and SMEs across multiple verticals, we are looking for an exceptional individual willing to embrace disruption and happy to challenge the status quo of a 40 year old industry.

The successful candidate will be joining an established team that has over 20 years’ experience in the storage industry. Exciting new opportunities are emerging as we look to extend our existing platform for clustered storage in a virtualised environment. We are looking to expand our core system development team to provide new functionality being requested by our existing customer base.

Key to our requirements is a C developer with provable skills in coding and maintaining reliable system libraries, which will provide core functionality to our products. An existing stack framework allows for new storage features to be rapidly developed to provide customer solutions, such as backup, high speed data replication, fast cloning and in memory caching.

Primary job expectations

  • Working with peers to develop new products and features
  • Taking ownership of, and helping architect solutions for the next generation of products
  • Communicating your ideas, engaging and collaborating with different teams within the business
  • Interfacing with different technical teams to resolve issues
  • Analysing customer failure scenarios
  • Improving performance and reliability of the products
  • Gathering requirements and presenting ideas for different solutions
  • Maintaining, troubleshooting and bug fixing existing code

Requirements of the role

Degree-level qualification in Computer Science or equivalent


  • Proven experience in C and systems development
  • Mathematical aptitude and strong problem-solving skills
  • Understanding of asynchronous programming
  • Understanding of caching techniques
  • Experience of writing unit tests to verify code
  • Experience with SCM tools such as git, CVS or similar
  • Experience of using opensource software within a solution
  • Familiar with Linux and UNIX command line
  • Demonstrable skills for debugging complex issues
  • Understanding of scripting languages such as bash, python or similar
  • Attention to detail and passionate about code quality
  • Experience working in an environment with Continuous Integration
  • Experience of working in an Agile environment
  • Strong communication skills
  • Possess a calm and can-do attitude towards problem-solving
  • Knowledge of network or storage protocols
