Channel Growth and the Rise of the Edge
By John Glendenning, SVP Sales and Business Development, StorMagic

Edge computing is on the rise because more data is being generated outside the traditional datacenter than inside. Hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) has emerged as the ideal solution for remote and branch offices, retail stores, distribution centers, small datacenter and others who are all needing to respond to the pain-point created by this shift in the location of data management.

StorMagic has seen a very clear trend of three in four customers now seriously considering HCI, up from one in four just two years ago. Another trend we have seen is the HCI appliance overprovisioning taking place within many HCI projects.Organisations will often get ‘sticker shock’ when they first take a look at an HCI configuration, yet given the hype in the market, will blindly deploy the solution nonetheless. StorMagic and its partners are highly focused on ensuring our customers provision exactly the right HCI configuration to meet the needs now and in the future, often delivering a solution that is 75 percent below the cost of competing HCI Appliance solutions.

Thanks to these market drivers, last week at Data Centre World London, StorMagic announced significant growth in its channel program. Recent achievements since January 2016 include:

  • 400 percent growth in channel demand – with a four-fold increase in quarterly deal registrations year over year
  • Addition of more than 200 new channel partners andfive distributors
  • Customers deployments in 23 new countries
  • The addition of key strategic partners, including Cisco, Citrix, Lenovo and APC by Schneider Electric

So what’s driving this momentum? It’s the combination of the broader acceptance of HCI the market no longer settling for — or being forced into– over-provisioned HCI appliances with high price tags and StorMagic SvSAN offering a valuable alternative to the channel.

Now installed across approximately 60 countries globally, StorMagic SvSAN is the ideal channel partner offering due to its flexibility and simplicity at much lower price points than competing solutions. With it, our partners can customize and build HCI solutions on any x86 server and storage hardware. The result is widespread adoption of SvSAN and tremendous growth at sites including: enterprises with distributed IT staff, ROBO, small datacentres and in enterprise edge computing sites.

Do you agree or disagree with some of my comments on the drivers for the edge and HCI?
