VMware Did It All Go Wrong? Partners & Customers Ask, “Now What?”

VMware by Broadcom has announced new subscription bundles, the removal of product options, and the cancellation of the VMware partner program. What happens now to VMware partners and customers?

VMware Did It All Go Wrong? It’s not us, it’s you.

Its not us, its youVMware, why have you left us? You have always been there for us, the small and medium businesses, the remote and branch offices, the sites at the edge, the VMware channel partners. But now, you are leaving us for those bigger and richer.

We had it so good. You used to give us just what we needed: products that solved problems, not caused them, and a VMware partner program that was inclusive, not exclusive. Sure, the relationship could be complicated, but we were able to get through virtually everything together. Now you just want to bundle up with the heavy hitters and leave us stranded. We supported you, gave you our loyalty (and our money), and now we don’t matter anymore.

For us in the channel, we loved being your matchmaker. We brought the best of you to our customers and built long-lasting relationships as VMware partners, and now we’re being dumped. We’ve been told we’re not good enough for VMware by Broadcom. We can beg you to take us back, but we’re going to need a minute.

So, where does that leave us: the SMBs, the ROBOs, those of us at the edge, and the VMware partners? What do we all do now?

Well, as it turns out, there are other fish in the sea. There are virtually dozens of ways to survive and prosper. There are great alternatives to make sure our data stays available, protected, and secure. And there are great alternatives for us channel partners and service providers to move on and start matchmaking with those we can count on. So, we aren’t so much bitter – as we are surprised.

Was it something we said, something we did or didn’t do? No, we think not. It’s not us, it’s you.

You are not the first to leave those who aren’t big enough or rich enough behind for perceived fame and fortune, and yet we are still here. And we are loved and cherished by those who truly know what we need (and what we don’t). So, take your big bundles and highfalutin requirements, and best wishes to you. We won’t say good riddance, for we are not lost without you. We’ll be just fine, virtually and for real.
