VMware vSphere and StorMagic

Simple, flexible, and reliable, StorMagic SvSAN and VMware vSphere work well together and are suited to SMBs and edge environments where resources may be limited and connectivity unreliable.

Why It Works Well with StorMagic

VMware is the recognized leader in storage virtualization, but StorMagic gives you highly available hyperconverged storage on just two nodes, without the cost or complexity that typically comes with VMware HA configurations.

Simplified Architecture

Build 2-node highly available clusters that are extremely lightweight and have low system requirements. No specialist hardware needed, just standard x86 servers from the VMware hardware compatibility list.

Flexible Options

Use any x86 server on the VMware hardware compatibility list with any storage configuration, and deploy VMs, containers, or both. You choose what works best for your environment.

Reliable 2-Node HA

The witness does not sit in the data path, can be sited locally or remotely, and provides quorum for up to 1,000 clusters, meaning high availability without the cost or complexity of a third node.

Cost-Effective Licensing

Storage capacity-based licensing alongside reduced hardware requirements combine to deliver an affordable solution that scales with your business, not against it.

Fully Certified for VMware vSphere

StorMagic SvSAN is certified and compatible with VMware vSphere, with rigorous testing and validation carried out on each new release as it becomes available. This compatibility includes vSphere 9.0, the hypervisor component of the current VCF product suite. SvSAN can be used in VCF environments where vSphere is present and the deployment follows applicable Broadcom/VMware licensing, compatibility, and support requirements. It also integrates seamlessly into vCenter via a dedicated plugin, so you can deploy and manage StorMagic at one or thousands of locations directly from your vSphere console.

Broadcom has recently changed their policy indicating that non-HA storage solutions will no longer be accepted for certain vSphere 9.0 storage certification programs. StorMagic SvSAN is a highly available storage solution and aligns with that direction, ensuring continued support for VCF deployments using SvSAN.

Ideal For

  • SMBs looking for a cost-effective alternative to vSAN

  • Edge and remote sites with limited resources or unreliable connectivity

  • Teams managing VMware environments who want simplified, centralized storage management
