In March 2024, StorMagic released its latest update to Edge Control, the cloud-based monitoring and management tool for StorMagic SvSAN. The release marks a step-change improvement for large enterprises and Managed Service Providers (MSPs). Offering enhanced capabilities, this new update introduced the multi-orchestrator, a new feature that caters directly to the core needs of these users, streamlining infrastructure management, and providing a more adaptable and scalable platform.

Large Enterprises

For large enterprises, Edge Control 1.2.0 marks a significant milestone in simplifying the management of large estates of SvSAN licenses. It is not uncommon for national or multinational organizations to have more than a thousand locations, especially retail chains. Typically, such businesses will group locations in a logical manner, such as by geography. The Edge Control 1.2.0 release enables large enterprises, particularly those with more than a thousand SvSAN clusters, to access every VSA and cluster from a single Edge Control login.

This is achieved through the multi-orchestrator – each Edge Control orchestrator can contain two thousand SvSAN VSAs, corresponding into one thousand clusters. Consequently, clusters can be grouped, such that an organization with three thousand clusters can access every one of them in Edge Control, with three orchestrators. The current Edge Control architecture permits a maximum of ten orchestrators, translating into ten thousand clusters, or twenty thousand SvSAN VSAs.

Managed Service Providers

Similar to large enterprises, MSPs also benefit from the launch of Edge Control 1.2.0. Service providers can now manage multiple, separate SvSAN deployments from a single Edge Control login, allowing easy monitoring of customer environments and fast, efficient system configuration and error resolution.

Typically each customer, if using VMware for storage virtualization, will have a single vCenter Server assigned to them by the MSP. With Edge Control, there is a 1:1 mapping between vCenter Server and the orchestrator. Therefore, the multi-orchestrator in the 1.2.0 release allows ten unique customers to be added to a single Edge Control login, allowing MSPs to further streamline their operations and enhance their client management capabilities.

This streamlined approach not only addresses previous challenges like simplifying administrative tasks, but also enables MSPs to scale up their services in an effective manner, allowing them to broaden their client base with ease.

Edge Control 1.2.0 Now Available

Edge Control 1.2.0 is now available, with existing customers able to upgrade to it right away, non-disruptively.
