StorMagic Edge Control is a cloud-based fleet management tool for edge environments. It makes it easier for organizations managing IT across distributed, remote locations. From a handful of sites to thousands of edge locations, it simplifies your fleet management and helps your teams stay focused on what matters most.

With the latest update, Edge Control 1.4, we’ve taken this further, introducing new features that not only improve ease of use but also enhance security for your edge IT environments.

What’s New in Edge Control 1.4?

Edge Control 1.4 introduces enhancements aimed at delivering efficiency and stronger security:

Live VM MigrationLive VM Migration: Easily move virtual machines between hosts in your SvHCI clusters, with no downtime.

Add-Remove SystemsAdd/Remove Systems: Quickly and conveniently manage your inventory of SvSAN and SvHCI systems directly from Edge Control’s centralized user interface. Command-line setup of new systems remains available for users who prefer scripting and automating this process.

MFA Trust PolicyMulti-Factor Authentication (MFA) Trust Policy: Improved MFA now provides administrators with an option to enforce MFA on every login for all users, enhancing security compliance. The previous default trust policy remains available, allowing users could choose to trust individual devices, minimizing MFA prompts on trusted devices.

SSO with SAMLSingle Sign-On (SSO) with SAML 2.0 Integration: Organizations can now choose to integrate Edge Control authentication with their enterprise SSO solutions. This simplifies user authentication by allowing them to use their organization login credentials and ensures compliance with enterprise-wide security policies. Okta is the first certified integration. Please contact StorMagic to discuss support for alternative identity providers.

Why Secure Login Matters for a Centralized Management Tool

A centralized, cloud-based interface simplifies remote management of your distributed systems. Because your teams can access it from anywhere, it’s important that authentication matches your organization’s security policies and compliance requirements. To manage this, your centralized management tool requires authentication options, including Single Sign-On (SSO) integration via SAML and a stricter Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) policy.

We’ve included these updates in Edge Control 1.4. These improvements allow your organization greater choice and control, making it easier than ever to align Edge Control access with your existing enterprise authentication standards. Whether you’re a large enterprise with stringent compliance needs or an SMB looking for simple yet robust protection, it ensures your centralized fleet management remains both convenient and secure.

What is SAML, and How Does It Work in a Centralized Fleet Management Tool?

Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) is a widely used open standard that allows user authentication between an identity provider (IdP) and applications, like a centralized management tool. SAML enables your team to access multiple applications with a single set of login credentials maintained by your organization’s chosen IdP (such as Okta).

When SAML integration is enabled in Edge Control, the user login experience is:

  1. Navigate to Edge Control’s login page.
  2. Choose SSO or enter your user name to be automatically redirected to your organization’s identity provider login page.
  3. Enter your existing corporate login credentials at the IdP, adhering to your organization’s own authentication policies.
  4. Upon successful authentication, users are seamlessly redirected back to Edge Control and granted immediate access.

This process significantly reduces complexity, simplifies user management, and ensures that your organization’s established security policies are consistently applied when accessing Edge Control.
