Integrating StorMagic SvKMS with Salesforce Shield
StorMagic SvKMS is a separate key manager and integrated with Salesforce Shield through the use of BYOK. This allows organizations to retain greater control of their encryption keys and meet generally accepted best practices for encryption key management regarding the separation of lock and key, whereby Salesforce provides the encryption and the external key manager controls the encryption keys.
Salesforce Shield users encrypt data using Data Encryption Keys (DEKs). These DEKs are then encrypted by Key Encryption Keys (KEKs) in StorMagic SvKMS. As a result, anyone gaining access to the DEKs in Salesforce cannot decrypt them without the KEKs in SvKMS. This allows the organization to control who can access their sensitive customer data in Salesforce, and from where, thereby enabling compliance with strict data protection regulations, and ensuring the separation of lock and key.
