Binary Testing’s Dave Mitchell has lab-tested StorMagic SvSAN 6.3 and Edge Control, and produced the impartial review available below. The review is ideal in aiding understanding of what a typical SvSAN deployment looks like, and how the software can be managed once up and running.

Using a mixed 2-node cluster of Dell PowerEdge Gen16 and HPE ProLiant Gen10 servers, Dave describes the deployment process of installing SvSAN on VMware ESXi 8 and then subsequently what management capabilities Edge Control provides. Dave also tests out the high availability functions of SvSAN and its witness feature, simulating a cluster node failure and monitoring performance with Iometer. Bringing together his findings, he concludes,

“(The) SvSAN solution is perfectly suited for use on edge servers. It’s an elegant and highly cost-effective product that’s a great choice for SMBs and particularly for edge applications that need highly available storage in places where failure is not an option.”
