About Eugen Forschner GmbH

Eugen Forschner GmbH develops and designs technology for the automotive industries, prepares it for series production and makes it available worldwide. It is a manufacturer of many products, including technology for high voltage systems, cabling systems and scr-systems.

Business Challenge:

Forschner previously used a physical SAN solution, the HPE MSA, a high performance storage array to store application data from construction, production, office, CRM and SQL databases. The systems were located in their Spaichingen headquarters and Czech Republic facility, the latter of which supports Forschner’s production side and the local office. In the search for a replacement solution, high availability was a key requirement, to ensure 24×7 operations and achieve 99% uptime. The customer was concerned about any downtime required during the migration to a new IT solution, so began a search for something that was easy and quick to install, and use.

Solution:

StorMagic was recommended by Forschner’s strategic partner, it@business, a value-added reseller who packages, sells and installs comprehensive IT solutions for end users. SvSAN only requires two servers for an HA solution, which depicts the smallest footprint. It’s ease of use and price for performance also stood out. The icing on the cake was how quickly the new solution could be installed, with minimal downtime required.

Forschner has found SvSAN to be a true HA solution with centralized management that offers compatibility with any storage type, including the all-flash drives on commodity hardware they preferred, which delivers excellent performance for the price. They selected an unlimited terabyte license so their SvSAN investment can grow with them as their data grows, well into the future.

Performance improvements, 100% uptime and the ability to conduct maintenance on SvSAN while it’s running have been key benefits to the customer.

Why StorMagic:

  • Eliminates downtime: StorMagic SvSAN is a highly available solution that can eliminate downtime for any organization. Data is written to two SvSAN VSA nodes to ensure service uptime and write operations only complete once acknowledged on both SvSAN VSAs. In the event of a failure, applications are failed over to other available resources to ensure continuous uptime. Forschner loved SvSAN’s ability to conduct maintenance while the software is still running.
  • Simple to install and use: SvSAN is designed to be very simple to install and manage whether deployed as part of a hyperconverged solution or as a storage-only target for any server environment. The virtual SAN solution was built specifically for edge, SME and small datacenters that may not have dedicated IT staff onsite, so they are reliant on simplicity. Forschner was able to migrate from an outdated physical SAN to the new SvSAN clusters with very minimal downtime.
  • High performance: SvSAN is compatible with all-flash commodity servers, to reduce costs while ensuring the best performance possible. SvSAN provides granular, historical I/O transaction, throughput and latency statistics for each volume. This is delivered through a simple, intuitive GUI with minimum, maximum, and average values for daily, monthly, yearly time periods.
